Does Watauga Dam Campground Allow EV Charging?
Here's what you need to know about EV charging at this RV park in Elizabethton, Tennessee.
EV Charging Policy
There are currently no EV charging capabilities at our facilities. RV electrical pedestals are designed for non-continuous loads, not the constant electricity flow required to charge EV batteries.
Set on the river below the dam near Elizabethton, Tennessee, Watauga Dam Campground catches the cold, gravel-bedded outflow from Watauga Reservoir. The TVA-operated site sticks to the system-wide no-charging rule, blaming the design of RV pedestals built for intermittent service rather than the steady current an EV needs. If you need DC fast charging beyond what the park provides, Elizabethton is about 8 miles away with Ford BlueOval stations. Johnson City is also nearby, about 12 miles away, with Tesla Supercharger, ChargePoint, EV Connect, and others stations. Trout anglers and tubers have made this campground their basecamp for decades, and the Tri-Cities cluster has caught up enough on charging that an EV-driving fisherman can stay in the game.
