EV Charging Along I-95: Maine to Florida

I-95 is the spine of the East Coast, 1,900 miles from Houlton, Maine to Miami. We track 52 RV parks along this corridor, and 31 of them support EV charging. The pattern is clear: KOA campgrounds with charging stations form a reliable backbone, New England has surprising density, and the Southeast has room to grow.

The Route

I-95 connects every major city on the East Coast. Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, Richmond, Jacksonville, Miami. It is the most traveled highway in America and, for EV drivers, one of the best-served for public fast charging.

The campground story is more nuanced. We track 52 parks across 15 states along this corridor. Thirty-one are EV-friendly (59%). New England is the strongest region, with Massachusetts achieving a near-perfect score. The Mid-Atlantic has solid KOA coverage. The Southeast is thinner but improving.

The I-95 corridor also reveals a clear trend: KOA campgrounds are the most reliable chain for EV charging stations. If you see a KOA along the route with "Stations Available," you can generally count on it.

New England: Dense and Surprisingly Good

New England has 26 parks in our directory along the I-95 corridor region. The density is high, the states are small, and the mix of policies tells an interesting story. Massachusetts is nearly perfect. New Hampshire is nearly the opposite. Maine splits down the middle.

Maine

Maine has eight parks in our directory. Two allow campsite charging, two have stations, and four prohibit it. The friendly parks are concentrated in southern Maine, closer to the I-95 corridor. The further north and inland you go, the less likely you are to find campground charging.

Four Maine parks prohibit EV charging: Acres of Wildlife in Steep Falls, Pleasant Hill in Hermon, Powder Horn in Old Orchard Beach, and Saco River Hideaway in Cornish.

New Hampshire

New Hampshire is the toughest state on this corridor for EV campers. Ten parks in our directory, and eight of them prohibit EV charging. The White Mountains region is particularly unfriendly. Only two parks, both with dedicated stations, break the pattern.

Massachusetts

Massachusetts is the gold standard for this corridor. Five of six parks have EV charging stations. The Cape Cod area alone has three Sun Retreats properties with stations, making it one of the best coastal camping regions for EV drivers in the country.

Mid-Atlantic: KOA Country

From Connecticut through Virginia, the I-95 corridor is anchored by KOA campgrounds with charging stations. This is where the KOA pattern becomes clear. The chain has been systematically adding EV charging to locations along major interstates.

Southeast: The Developing Corridor

South of Virginia, the I-95 corridor thins out for EV campground charging. North Carolina is a bright spot with three KOAs all offering stations. South Carolina has one park allowing campsite charging. Georgia is mixed. Florida's coverage focuses on the Orlando area.

DC Fast Charging Along I-95

I-95 is one of the best-served interstates for DC fast charging in the country. The corridor passes through every major East Coast metro, and charging infrastructure is dense from Connecticut to Florida.

Connecticut has universal fast chargers at multiple I-95 service plazas, including Madison, New Canaan, Greenwich, and Fairfield. Tesla Superchargers, Electrify America, EVgo, and ChargePoint all have strong presence along the urban Northeast corridor.

The biggest gap is northern New England. A study found that New Hampshire, Maine, and Vermont fall below 50% DCFC coverage along their interstate corridors. Connecticut and New Jersey exceed 90%. If you are driving the full route, expect to plan more carefully north of Boston than south of it.

The NEVI program is filling gaps nationwide, with every state installing fast chargers along major highways. As of early 2026, the national network has over 70,000 public DC fast charging ports, with Tesla Supercharger, Electrify America, EVgo, ChargePoint, and the fast-growing Ionna network leading deployment.

Planning Your I-95 Trip

  • In New England, target Massachusetts and Maine's Sun Outdoors parks for overnight campground charging. New Hampshire is tough. Charge at public stations in Portsmouth or Concord instead.
  • Cape Cod is an EV camping paradise. Three Sun Retreats parks with stations, plus Walden Pond. If your trip includes beach time, this is the place.
  • The KOA chain is your friend on I-95. From Connecticut to Virginia to North Carolina to Florida, KOA locations with "Stations Available" form a spine you can plan around.
  • Crossroads Coach Resort in Lake City, SC is the only "Allowed At Campsite" park on the Southeast segment. It sits right on I-95 between Florence and Charleston, making it a natural overnight stop.
  • Florida coverage is Orlando-only in our directory. If your trip ends in Miami or the Keys, use DC fast chargers south of Orlando. Tesla Superchargers line the Florida Turnpike.
  • Northern New England in winter demands extra planning. Cold weather cuts range by 20% to 30%, and New Hampshire's DCFC coverage is below 50%. Charge fully before leaving the Boston area if heading into the White Mountains.
  • For details on campground hookup types and charging speeds, see our outlet guide and charging speed guide.
