April 2026: 33 New Parks Across Washington, Arizona, Colorado, Texas, and Idaho

We headed west this month with 33 new parks across five states. Washington and Colorado brought the most variety, Arizona delivered some of the most interesting policies we have seen in a while, and two remote Texas parks near Big Bend reminded us just how far apart things are out there.

Highlights This Month

  • First Arizona parks added to the directory. Eleven parks covering the state from the Grand Canyon corridor to the Yuma desert. Rock Springs RV Resort stands out with 100-amp EV charging stations, serious infrastructure for an RV park
  • Three Washington state parks (Daroga, Schafer, Lake Sammamish) all list EV charging as an amenity. The state parks system is quietly building out EV access without much fanfare
  • Colorado produced the widest range of fines we have seen in a single state. Estes Park KOA charges $100 for plugging in. Cool Sunshine RV Park in Alamosa charges $50. Leavenworth KOA in Washington adds a $30 fee. The price of getting caught is trending upward
  • Paisano Village in Terlingua is 72 miles from the nearest DC fast charger. Campsite charging there is not a convenience, it is the only option. The Lost Alaskan in Alpine offers free 50-amp charging for guests, one of the best deals in the directory
  • Aspen Acres Campground in Rye has a contradictory policy: 15 cents per kWh at the pedestal, but also says charging is "allowed only in emergency situations." Call before you rely on it

Trends & Insights

  • Arizona is split down the middle on EV charging. The Phoenix metro (Mesa, Black Canyon City) is welcoming with dedicated stations. Rural Arizona (Munds Park, Valle, Benson) mostly says no. The I-17 and I-10 corridors have strong public charging, but step off the interstate and the gaps widen fast
  • Colorado mountain towns are becoming a battleground for EV policy. Two parks in Grand Lake both prohibit charging, and the nearby chargers are all ChargePoint only. Ouray charges $25/day for campsite charging, which adds up to $175 on a week-long stay. Altitude, cold weather, and limited networks make the Front Range to Western Slope route one of the trickier EV camping corridors in the country
  • KOA continues to be the most documented chain in the directory, and this batch reinforces the pattern: their campground pages are unusually transparent about EV policy. Whether they say yes or no, they say it clearly. Three new Washington KOAs and two new Colorado KOAs all have explicit policies posted
  • Manufactured home communities in Arizona (Mesa Sunset, Citrus Gardens, Las Quintas, Del Pueblo) are adding EV chargers as lifestyle amenities. This is a different market than traditional campgrounds, but the infrastructure benefits visiting RVers too
