September 2026: 55 New Parks, and the Plugs Live at the Lodge

Since the last roundup in August, we worked the Great Lakes and the Northeast, then emptied the reader mailbag, and 55 new parks took the directory from 591 to 646. The batch split almost down the middle, 25 parks with charging stations and 26 that say no, with just four campsite yeses in the lot. Where the plugs do exist, they mostly sit at the lodge, the beach lot, or the front gate, and most of them are at state parks.

Highlights This Month

Michigan more than doubled, from 10 parks to 22, and nine of the twelve newcomers are state parks or recreation areas where the DNR has installed chargers. Holland State Park has 4 Rivian units in the beach lot, Bay City State Park runs 4 ChargePoint stations beside the Tobico Marsh, and both stations at Rifle River are free. The sleeper is Leelanau State Park: a rustic campground with no hookups at the tip of a dead-end peninsula, and 2 Rivian chargers anyway
Six Indiana state park inns joined as station parks. Four trace back to a 2016 state promise of a Tesla station with 2 Tesla ports and 1 universal port at each inn, and Spring Mill and Clifty Inn followed in 2017 and 2022. The chargers landed, but at the inns, a short drive from the campground loops, and whether those universal ports survived the decade is a question for the front desk. Call Turkey Run Inn first: its charger no longer shows up cleanly on current maps
Door County is a geography lesson. Four new parks on the peninsula, and the only DC fast charging is back in Sturgeon Bay, 21 to 32 miles down the road; Marinette looks close on the map until you notice Green Bay is in the way. Hy-Land Court RV Park in Ellison Bay backs its all-caps NO EV CHARGING ALLOWED with a $20 a day fee and a $1,500 bill for any damaged pedestal ⚠️. Down the road in Sister Bay, Aqualand and Dovetail Acres keep paid NEMA 14-50 outlets you are actually allowed to use. Bring your own mobile connector
Vermont went from one park to five, and all four newcomers say no, two of them with a $50 fine attached: Gold Brook in Stowe and Mountain View in Morrisville. Pine Hollow in Pownal says charging is currently prohibited, which leaves Brattleboro North KOA and its on-site stations as the only Vermont park in the directory where you can plug in
The campsite yeses came from the West, and mostly by mail. A reader reports Oregon Trail RV Park in Atkinson, Nebraska was fine with an electric truck and an electric trailer, a combination that would get you turned away at nearly half the parks in this update. Heart of Glacier, less than a mile from Glacier's east entrance in St. Mary, keeps one NEMA 14-50 for EV campers, and Parkway RV Campground in Cody takes cash for its two 14-50s, walking distance from the nightly rodeo. That is three of the batch's four campsite yeses

→The scoreboard: 25 parks with stations, 26 refusals, 4 campsite yeses. Split it by owner and the story is familiar. Eighteen of the 25 station parks are run by a state or county, and not one state or county park in the batch said no. Of the 26 refusals, 25 came from private campgrounds, and the last is a national forest campground run by a private concessionaire. →Station almost never means campsite. The Indiana plugs are at the inns, Holland's are in the beach lot, Frankenmuth Jellystone keeps its station in the mini golf lot, Lake Farm County Park outside Madison puts its chargers at the Heritage Center, and The Woods Camping Resort lines up 4 ChargePoint units by the pool with idle fees to keep people moving. Plan on moving the car once it is full. Somebody else is waiting
→New York and Pennsylvania held the hard line, 15 refusals in 17 additions. Some of that is chain policy: Modern America Campgrounds bars charging at any pedestal in its pass rules, which put King Phillip's and Lake George Riverview on the no list, along with Bar Harbor Campground at the edge of Acadia. Both new KOAs said no as well. Across the 49-park sweep through the East and the Great Lakes, exactly one park said yes at the site: Fancy Gap Cabins and Campground on the Blue Ridge Parkway, which offers a 110-volt outlet at the office for $2.50 an hour or the 50 amp pedestal at RV site 5 or 6. →Read the refusals closely and many of them carry a time stamp. Seven of the 26 hedge with at this time, currently, presently, or until, and Two Lakes Campground in the Wisconsin northwoods says no only until it can install stations. Others point you somewhere: Tree Farm Campground in Springfield says there is a charger in town, and Hide-A-Way Campsites sends you 5 miles to The Serious Brewing Co. The fairest rule of the batch belongs to White Oak Campground in Quarryville, which bans charging except for extended-stay guests on metered electric, since they pay for every kilowatt-hour anyway
→Housekeeping. We audited every listing for charger directions that skipped a closer town and fixed more than 30, including both Branson parks, Moab, and three Cody parks that were sending drivers 74 miles to Dubois past a fast charger in town. The maps picked up a Near me button that sorts the closest parks from wherever you are standing, without storing your location, and the footer has a new Add to home screen link for anyone who wants the directory one tap away on the road. And with Indian Mountain State Park joining on Tennessee's Rivian network, the Tennessee roster is now 40 deep
