March 2026: Iowa and Missouri Join the Directory

Big Midwest expansion with 38 parks across two new states. Iowa brings 8 parks with a mixed bag of policies, while Missouri adds 30 parks highlighted by 11 state parks with a uniform $5 EV charging fee. Missouri KOAs universally prohibit charging, but independent parks and the state park system tell a more welcoming story.

Highlights This Month

  • Iowa and Missouri join the directory with 38 parks across both states
  • Missouri state parks have a uniform $5 EV charging policy — the most consistent state park system we've seen. Even non-campers can charge at a vacant electric site for $5 with a one-hour limit
  • Hunters Friend Resort in Branson offers free EV charging for guests with four dedicated Level 2 chargers — the first business in Branson to do so
  • All 12 KOA locations across both states prohibit EV charging, consistent with KOA corporate policy on pedestal charging

Trends & Insights

  • Missouri is the first state where a state park system has a clear, uniform EV charging policy. This could be a model for other states
  • Branson, MO is a mixed bag: Hunters Friend offers free charging, but Branson KOA and The Embers prohibit it entirely
  • Fee structures range widely: $5/day at Missouri state parks and Treasure Lake, $15/night at Iowa's Spook Cave, $25/charge at Stage Stop
