West Coast Push, Plus Maryland and Nebraska Debut

We went wide this week with 47 parks across four states. Oregon leads the pack with 20 parks, including six state parks that all have dedicated EV charging stations. California adds 13 more (from Death Valley to Half Moon Bay), Maryland and Nebraska join the directory for the first time, and the KOA story gets more complicated.

Highlights This Month

  • Maryland and Nebraska join the directory, bringing the total to 29 states. Maryland's Eastern Shore has five parks with dedicated EV stations, anchored by three Sun Outdoors properties near Ocean City
  • Six Oregon state parks now have dedicated EV charging stations at day-use areas, from Silver Falls in the Willamette Valley to Prineville Reservoir in the high desert
  • Furnace Creek Campground in Death Valley warns against plugging into pedestals but points guests to EV stations at the nearby Oasis Ranch and Inn. Charging in the hottest place on Earth, sorted
  • Crane Hot Springs charges $50/day for EV charging with a $75 non-prepayment fine, making it one of the most expensive campsite charging options in the directory. The hot springs might be worth it
  • KOA breaks its own mold: Temecula KOA at Vail Lake, San Diego Metro KOA, Cave Junction KOA, and Lemolo Lake KOA all have dedicated EV charging stations, even as other KOAs in the same states prohibit it
  • Thanks to the readers who submitted parks for this batch. If you know a campground with a documented EV charging policy, send it our way

Trends & Insights

  • Oregon state parks are following Missouri's lead with a consistent EV charging approach. All six parks in this batch have dedicated stations at day-use parking areas, suggesting a system-wide rollout
  • The KOA picture is getting nuanced. Corporate policy still prohibits pedestal charging, but four KOAs in this batch have added their own dedicated EV stations. The split seems to track with resort-tier properties investing in infrastructure while journey-tier locations stick to the ban
  • Oregon's Harney County (Frenchglen, Jordan Valley, Crane) is the most remote corner of the lower 48, and all three parks allow campsite charging. When you are 45 miles from the nearest DC fast charger, campground owners seem to understand the need
  • Casini Ranch and Golden Pines both have dedicated stations with per-kWh pricing ($0.50/kWh), a trend away from flat daily fees toward usage-based charging
