The Sunshine State is a premier destination for RV enthusiasts, offering year-round warm weather, stunning beaches, unique ecosystems, and endless attractions. Florida's growing EV infrastructure and RV-friendly culture make it an excellent choice for electric vehicle owners exploring the state with their campers.
RV Camping in Florida
Florida features over 170 state parks and thousands of private RV resorts, many catering to long-term winter visitors known as "snowbirds." From the Florida Keys to the Panhandle beaches, Everglades to natural springs, the state offers diverse camping experiences. Most parks provide full hookups with 30/50-amp service. Popular destinations include Bahia Honda State Park, Fort De Soto Park, Anastasia State Park, and countless RV resorts in central and southern Florida.
EV Charging Infrastructure in Florida
Florida's EV charging network has expanded significantly, particularly along the I-95, I-75, and I-4 corridors. Major metropolitan areas like Miami, Orlando, Tampa, and Jacksonville have extensive charging infrastructure. The Florida Turnpike features multiple fast-charging locations. Coastal areas and tourist destinations generally offer better charging access than rural inland regions. Tesla Superchargers are well-distributed across the state, and Electrify America continues expanding coverage.
Planning Your EV RV Trip
Florida's flat terrain is gentle on EV battery consumption, but summer heat and humidity (June-September) increase air conditioning needs, reducing range. Hurricane season (June-November) requires monitoring weather forecasts. Popular RV parks book months in advance for winter season (December-March), when northern residents flock south. Many RV parks cater to monthly rentals during peak season. Always confirm EV charging policies, as some parks restrict usage or charge additional fees. Consider visiting in shoulder seasons (April-May, October-November) for better availability and pleasant weather.
